Problem attaching excel reports to email

Recently I have had problems: 1. Made and saved an excel report on One Drive Personal 2. clicked on Attach in email 3. found report 4. attached it…
Problem is that it can’t be read from the email; when it is clicked, nothing happens. I spent some time trying to change from Excel Workbook (.xlsx)* to something else and didn’t understand the MANY ways to change it…This was when saving… I am so confused right now… it used to be easy and just worked. What happened and how can I fix it? I have Windows 10 PC Thanks, Anne

A lot depends on what email program you are using. The Captain assumes Outlook, which seems reasonable, but there are many other possibilities.

It sounds to me like you are trying to open an attachment in an email that you have not received. i.e. one in your “Sent” mailbox or your “Out Going Mail” mailbox. I can think of a few ways you might not be able to open an attachment in either of the mailboxes I mentioned. (I am not a windows person and I know nothing about One Drive beyond it was hard to remove from my Mac.)

I am guessing your real concern is sending the Spread Sheet to someone. The way I would try to test this is emailing the report to yourself – if you do not have a second email address - first you might want to get one and second is there someone else in your household?

No. But Microsoft Support is a good place to start.

I no longer use Excel. I just sent a LibreOffice spreadsheet via Apple Mail to my Yahoo mail account. It downloaded just fine.

It seems that my attachments do open… I just can’t open them myself, but my daughter in law can… You think it is the email that I have? I have a local one MCN.org that is run by the local high school… Thanks, Anne

Could well be. Do you have an alternate email address like Yahoo or Google to test it with? If they work for you it’s the high school server. If not it’s your mail client.

Thanks for your info…I noticed that on my “Sent” list that it allows me to save the attachments, but not to open them. Maybe that is just because I sent the email… It has a drop down arrow for options and “Open” is an option, but i am not able to do that in my “Sent” folder.

I got a reply from the person I was sending to and they were able to open the attachments…

OK, will check it out… Anne Thanks!!!

Great ideas… I will try that… Thanks, Anne

I have never tried to open an attachment from the sent folder so I gave it a try. It downloads OK but on opening I get the following.

Anne, do the following:

Send yourself the email with the attachment
Open the attachment from the inbox folder

It should open.
