Shipping broker reports 02/07/23 - 2/10/23

Per comment in another thread, I was offline for a few weeks. I had not kept up with developments that entire time. Opted to use Seasure, plus Intermodal, for early Feb 2023. Definitely includes some overlap.

  • Somewhat balanced sale & purchase activity among all three segments of shipping (container vessel sales had been more subdued till this week)
  • Sale of an older bulker by NMM. The company has been doing these individual deals (I read somewhere about a 2008 VLCC sale for > $50M. If true, that’s a good price for an older VLCC)
  • VLCC mentioned in the Intermodal link is over 5 years older, and is auction related
  • All the tanker vessels sales seem to be “better than average”
  • Container charters are for mostly for the smaller sized vessels and seem to be sliding towards pre-Covid levels. Likely still profitable for the owners, but likely not as profitable as the prior two years

Not listed in either broker report above, but mentioned when SFL reported results - SFL selling one of its older Suezmax vessels. Have not seen the price, but I think anything > $28M would be a great for SFL.

Data point from SFL Q4 release–
Subsequent to quarter end, SFL has agreed to sell a 2009 built Suezmax tanker for a net sales price of approximately $39 million (slightly over 40% is debt) so SFL have abt $22M of capital to re-allocate
