Agree. Change it back
Thanks for emailing me directly. This will sound ridiculous butā¦ā¦I hadnāt realized that this interchange wasnāt on one of the boards that I track. Took me quite a while to discover what board Iād actually stumbled onto, and even then I couldnāt find this thread. Will answer you quickly now, as Iām really pressed for time. More later. And I will also recap what I learn on that thread in case itās helpful for anyone else.
Apologies for not having included sufficient information. No iPhone. I ever use my phone for this kind of activity. MacBook Air, High Sierra OS (old, I know), Chrome. Will send a screen shot later.
Sheila
The thought of the old boards coming back is a pipe dream.
The biggest issue is that people donāt like change. Amusingly a number of people didnāt like the old boards and kept clamoring for a change and now still arenāt happy.
Now I sure donāt understand why anyone would use a phone to read stuff like this since it seems like a painful way to read stuff but that is me. (I do have a smart phone, ipad, etc. so I have a ton of modern technology.)
I have trouble finding a post that i just read and closed. Where did it go??? Where was I? Which board? I donāt understand this interface, at all. Iām still looking for the patterns! Iāll try searching by person, but I canāt remember who wrote it. Is there a āmy historyā of read articles, today, somewhere I donāt know about? This is very time consuming. Yes, you get what you pay for. But you donāt want to pay anything if itās so difficult. Maybe Iāll find the way right after I post thisā¦.
Replying to my own post:
Well, I found the answer to āthatā question: How to search. And I found what I was looking for. However, it took long for me to figure that out. Iāll post about this on a separate topic.
I understand that things are developingā¦.
I suppose the best way is clicking on your profile and then activity.

The old stock boards are now called tags. You can edit the list of tags you follow for company specific boards that have been migrated. Many have - but not all.
Click on the hamburger menu to reveal the sidebar which lists the categories and tags that you want to follow. Use the + sign to add and manage the list of each and then click on the save button.
Hope that helps,
'38Packard
'38Packard, you have already been extremely helpful to me so I donāt want to push my luck, but I would like to add tags. When I follow your directions, I get this:
There is no way to scroll to get more options. I have read from others (no idea where, sorry) that they also have very limited choices, so hopefully any answers to this query will help others as well.
Thanks,
Louella
Hi Luella. Not 38, But maybe this will help,?
When I click the hamburger and then Tags, I get the red circled field.
This allows me to Search for a particular board/stock.
The same field shows for Categories, too.

Hi Louella,
Click on the Plus that you see near the Selectā¦ ā +
click on Berkshire Hathaway
Repeat for other company names you want to follow
Click outside of the dropdown box
Magically, a SAVE button appears!!
Click on Save ā Viola!!!
I hope this helps!!
'38Packard
ā youāre getting there!!!
On my iPhone, the circle with my avatar (my initials) comes and goes, depending on the direction Iām scrolling.
So if you donāt see it, try reversing the direction you were scrolling.
āPeter
I am grateful to @rainphakir, @38Packard, and @ptheland, but sadly none of this advice helps. for me, āoptional tagsā is grey and unclickable. I am using a laptop.
Other ideas? I generally love change, and I had nothing but disdain for the old boards, but being unable to follow any of my companies isā¦ wellā¦ suboptimal.
Thanks again (and still),
Louella
You can āseeā the āoptional tagsā, but it appears greyed out?
Click it, and start typing.
For me, when I click it, nothing seems to happen, but when I start typing, magic happens.
ralph
Hi Pete ā Iāll post on the board tomorrow, with a screen shot. Been royally busy right now. But just to set things straight with youā¦ā¦ this is on my laptop (MacBook Air). I donāt do any of this on my phone. And it doesnāt matter in what direction I scroll, I have to personal profile option.
Sheila
After you click on the + in either categories or tags you will see some greyed out text. However, the cursor will be in this location. Donāt worry about clicking, just start typing the first few letters of what you want to search for. For example, to find the Microsoft board, just start typing Micro and by then youāll see a few choices you can pick. The one big quirk is you have to save and you might not see the āsaveā button until you click somewhere else to close the drop down menu.
Use Tags for stock boards and Categories for others
Mike
Ive started looking and hanging out at the Value Investors Club. Thereās good write ups and disucssion boards there on specific companies etc.
@rainphakir and @mschmit, thank you so much for your tenacious efforts to help me out. Eureka! You have done it!! I now can add tags. Thank you thank you thank you! Also, @Blackswanny, thanks for the Value Investors Club, I will check it out. Iāve found Saulās board extremely helpful.
Again, thanks to all!
Louella
Ditto the thanks. Getting a bit more comfortable using the site but I canāt say Iām any closer to liking it.
Right now, it feels a bit like the difference between driving a stick shift and automatic car. After 40 years of driving (and preferring) a manual transmission, I had to switch to automatic 5 or so years ago as the manufacturers had dropped the manual optionā¦something that seems to be more common even for sportier wheels than I driveš¤Ø. Iām used to it now but Iād still prefer the manual option.
- Now I sure donāt understand why anyone would use a phone to read stuff like this since it seems like a painful way to read stuff but that is me*
I read on the phone when I am stuck in the waiting room at a Doctorās office, when I am waiting for Mrs. Goofy to finish looking at every single piece of clothing at Costco, or when Iām doing 90mph in self driving mode on the interstate (just kidding.)
The readability on my phone is actually better than it was in the old system, but the organization and overall utility is, to put it mildly, far worse.
Say, has anyone else noticed that the TMFers who are helping seem to be uniformly cheery about the whole thing? I find myself wondering if this is a result of corporate dictat, resignation that āthis is what it is, so get over itā, or actual joy having had several weeks more to get used to the experience. (Iām going with a combination of āpaycheckā + āstoicismā, but Iām hoping itās actually #3. Anything is possible, I suppose.)
Iām just āstanding on the shoulders of giantsā as they say. Any tidbit I pass along was taught to me by someone else in the last 3 weeks.
As @VeeEnn says āitās getting easierā.
I expect that in a couple months, itāll be MUCH easier.
I started reading TMF back in the AOL days. Thats so long ago that i dont remember being frustrated by it.
But, i DO remember having various folks teach me about the html tags for formatting posts.
And, other aspects of board use.
Once we (I) get truly familiar with this format, I suspect weāll (Iāll) like it.
