All second generation immigration kids…
The title should be What Immigration Does FOR American Economy.
It revitalizes our culture and economy and we’re lucky to have most of the people who come here.
Even 2 to 3 years ago, the aim of top Chinese AI talent coming out of the college is to come to US. Typically 80% ~ 90% used to come to US. Now that number has dropped < 20%. US policies, like “small yard, high fence” don’t understand how advanced Chinese AI tech industry is, and how close to US they are…
@thegreatdane There is a reason I used “to”… because US policies (by both parties)…
Weren’t you pounding on the table for Trump to stop the H1B program ? This is what he has now effectively done. He has effectively stopped it under the guise of “abuse”.
??? No, not me.
LOL… He didn’t stop it, he just raised the fees.
from you:
All not true. Average H1-B salaries 75K. My son out of college started with $95K and not even in IT. We all know how the system is gamed.
also you
I suppose you know how to google and look for information?? The actual labor department requirement is only $60K. The information I provided is also available to goole, I suppose you are not one of those who are too smart to look for actual data and just spout whatever comes to their mind? are you?
also you:
-----
H1B fees is now $100k. It is essentially stopping it. Companies will instead outsource the job and in some cases, serious competition will emerge from parts of the globe where $Trillion companies and jobs will relocate.
Be careful what you wish for. Why would students come to the US if there is no job prospect.
Divi,
Here is the post on the same thread… which was my last reply to you… I merely pointed out H1-B salaries have a range, depending on the skill, some people get very nicely paid, when they are directly hired by $GOOGL, $AMZN, vs some routine skillsets when hired through contracting firms get much lower salary.
Like everything in life, immigration has its positives and its negatives. The $100 K fees is not going to address any of them, it is simply a means for Donald to collect higher revenue. Why we are so desperate for revenue grab at every turn? Simple, the $3.5 T give away in Big ugly bill needs to be funded.
Are you serious? The anti-legal immigration stand is coming from make america great crowd and GOP and not from democrats. How badly you have to read to get to this conclusion?
lol, now you are pro H1B after arguing that it is being gamed ? This is disingenous on your part or you are confused on your stand.
Note: I voted for Trump but am regretting it.
Saying H1-B is being gamed doesn’t mean you are against it. It is like saying there is some fraud going on with Medicare doesn’t mean, you want medicare to be abolished or against it.
Not difficult to understand it.
You are saying what Trump and his supporters are saying about H1B. You are all saying H1B is gamed. This is inaccurate and false.
Now Trump has essentially shut it down with the $100k fee requirement. The effect of this is NOT more jobs for Americans. This means companies will outsource these jobs and other countries will likely create next Meta, Google, Tesla, Amazon etc.
I disagree. That is a pretty simplistic view. I talked about how some % of H1-B’s are not for high skill, and routine skill, for which companies should be able to find people within US and companies are doing labor arbitrage, which is an abuse. Trump and his supporters like Laura Loomer’s of the Trump world claiming all H1-B is low skill and other racist positions are not same.
What you are saying is factually false. The H1B program is for high skill and companies have to justify the wage by role and geographic location. They have to file an application to Department of Labor to get approval.
You are aligned with Trump’s policy but dancing around it to justify it.
You are just being dishonest with yourself.
Underlying this thread and much USA discussion of immigration is a fundamental dishonesty of the discussions to hide hidden agendas.
An honest discussion would begin by making employers seriously liable for employing/paying illegal workers. All the other stifled arguments need real airing as well.
There is no discussion about illegal workers here.
Also, I have talked about ad-nauseum how employers are not held accountable. When ICE goes to meat packing facility or a farm and arrest people for being here illegally and the employers face no issues. They are mostly Trump/ Republican voters. Republicans will not arrest employers. The goal seems to be going after people and make dramatic gestures like deport them with hands, legs chained, deny them food, or water.. just make the experience so dramatic that they will be scared to enter again.
Here is an article discussing I9 penalties for 2025. I question whether it’s being enforced.
“In 2025, employers face tougher consequences for mistakes on Form I-9. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have increased fines for I-9 violations to as much as $28,619 per offense. Even minor paperworkerrors can cost hundreds of dollars per violation, while knowingly hiring unauthorized workers can trigger steep penalties and repeat-offense escalations. With ICE ramping up audits nationwide, every HR team needs a clear plan to avoid fines and stay compliant.
The EU has more AI data centers than the US. The US has more AI data centers than China. The differences in numbers are marked. Europe is becoming the true high tech zone.
