When you have to be away from portfolio, then what?

Hello all,
I have encountered a unique (seriously hoping this is only ever time) situation in my life recently and I am only just now able to get back to my portfolio after about two weeks away. In today’s world, two weeks can seem like forever! LOL.
I actively manage my stocks, ala - Sauldom, and so I had to try to plan for the transition time and now I am having to catch up on the news and happenings. Looking to hear how others might have had to deal with this.

Basically, this was a hospital visit, that was estimated to take me out for more than two weeks. I am back at the PC in about that time. Going into that there were some of my more ‘iffy’ stocks and options that I wanted to clean up. So I bailed on Crowdstrike with a bit of a loss after the world outage. (OMGoodness that was close to my surgery date.) Usually, I take a few more days to see where the news goes, but this was one I wanted to not worry about. I figured that Nvidia dropping was a good place for a bit of that money, and a bit went into Broadcom as well. They seemed safer in case I had to be away for a bit.
In the options, I was fine with getting rid of my GME position. It has been an option play on all the hoopla with Roaring Kitty. But since I couldn’t watch it weekly while out, I put a tight call option in and said thanks for the profits so far. Options on my other two iffy positions like Toast and SoundHound were put on hold. I let the options at the time close out and didn’t set any more. These are more on the list of interesting and let’s keep following them, so didn’t want to risk it while I was out for the time.

I did not sell out of everything and go to cash, I did not put it all into ETF’s. I wanted to stay invested but in higher quality places. These would be similar places I’d leave my money for vacations, but probably not for ultimate retirement income.

Anyone else have to do similar and what were the general thoughts that led you? Did you full safety, middle of road, or stay the course and see what happens?

PS…yeah, it was a double bi-pass, I am still in minor/moderate daily pain and this morning had a bit of light headedness when leaning down, trying to say hi to kitties and puppies. I’m on the mend, and this “should” take care of the family genetics issue.

Hi Buffy,
Mine was an accident in which I tripped and fell and broke my shoulder and hip and needed a prosthesis for the shoulder joint and a big titanium spike for the hip. (I’m becoming a bionic man). However, I had no chance to plan anything in advance, and after two huge surgeries the same day, and lots of surgical anesthesia, it took me 10 days to 2 weeks before I could think totally clearly or concentrate. My portfolio survived.
