A bipartisan program is being initiated in Florida supported by DeSantis and the few democrats still holding political office in the state. Beginning in 2024, a year-round school pilot program will be tested for four years, after which a recommendation will be made as to whether to make it a state-wide requirement.
Significant bipartisan stuff does occur even in very polarized states, and it is a shame that it doesn’t get more notice.
Huh??? I’ve been an adult for over 40 years, and I’ve known adults for even longer. And the vast majority of adults WORK ALL YEAR LONG except for perhaps a week or two or three of vacation spread across the year. The only adults I know that have the summer off are teachers. And some of them have secondary jobs they do in the summer (like at summer camps, for example).
But I have family with vacations all over the landscape this summer. Like last summer.
My main business partner is permanently off for most of the summer. While we have a meeting that is scheduled sometime in September.
I have friends around 50 to 60 who are out doing anything but work.
My business friends who want things done have next to no expectations of anything moving during the summer. While that is not everyone’s culture that is the business culture in my circles. It is strange to me because it is not me and the doctor’s circles I discuss it is not their culture. But even my BIL will have about 4 weeks of this summer.
Really some of the businesspeople have far more money than the doctors. But no major status. Thing is I am down the ladder and things stop at the top.

Honestly the day job I am not all that much. I can not discuss the company because policy is I have to represent them and not myself online the moment I mention them.
That all said about not being that high up in the day job…I sent in my NFTs to Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Phillip’s and Bonham’s this week. I will hear back from each of them over the next 2 to 7 weeks with free appraisals. The intent told to each of them to sell the NFTs.
I have also begun to get into the game development I have mentioned prior. I studied VS Code functionality this week. Now I am starting some CPP training. My delaying has been good for fleshing out the concept. I am better off starting to make the game now.
About six weeks ago I got involved with my business partnership with a new concept. While it is only on the drawing board at the moment it has some promise.
The thing I truly control is the game. It is the thing that is not thinking outside the box. The money is thinking in the box. A more recent friend was a partner of Frank Gehry. A group of guys used to bounce ideas around. My new friend pointed out it is the last idea thinking inside the box where the money is.
Nice culture to be in. Many years, I wasn’t even allowed to use the two weeks of vacation time I supposedly earned, required to be at work 52 weeks/year,
I have not used up my vacation time. I looked things over and talked to my boss. I am taking ten days around Thanksgiving. I wont use up my vacation time. But if an emergency comes up I have some time off with pay. My parents are older. I am leaving space in my calendar for things.
Nice for you. The last time I really attempted to take a week’s vacation, I had spent the entire summer covering everyone else’s vacation. Come September, everyone else was back, their spawn were back in school, the department was not backlogged. I put in my vacation request. Refused, no reason. I was simply told I had to stay there and keep working my 60+ hour week, every week. I did get a couple days off in late 2000, then the other staffer and the department head were laid off. I worked the next 5 years solid, 52 weeks every year. At least, when I was laid off from OD, they did pay me for some of the vacation time they would not let me use. When WPI closed, the JC kept all the money for himself.
Actually my friend who is a CEO of a local marketing firm. Was the CEO of a good sized insurer. Had been an executive of Aetna’s and has worked as a younger guy at Anderson Consulting has always been a top performer. If the stock market is going up or down he has fully knowledge of what to do and when.
Back just after high school he started in a bank as a teller. Three months later he was in charge of the tellers. He says he took the job too seriously. He never peaked in his aspirations. Just his niches are only a certain size compared to say a bigger tech than Aetna’s Mcap.
He is always on vacation and sometimes working. He is fishing in Truro. He is farming in Litchfield county. He has traveled three times this year to Europe, Norway, Germany and then Portugal.
He will have a meeting with the CIO and myself when his fishing ends sometime end of September. Like I am trying to say I do not control this. I am part of a four man sort of think tank. I am the only one creating ideas. He actually thinks this new idea is very good. Reality it is on his backburner. If his CIO likes it odds are we will run with it. But it interrupts his CIO and himself, possibly his wife. Thing is if it has legs it is worthwhile.
He makes a living calling it into his marketing firm for the most part. His wife is his COO. She told me a few weeks ago accurately that she does all the work.
I control the game development in my name only. The marketing of it would go pretty far as done by all the vendors without any help or pushing at all by me. Plus I think the word of mouth would be pretty good.
The NFTs I am running an ad on FB now. I have more control than in IG. The FB ads manager offers a lot of control. I discovered in the last 18 hours that if I run at ad for clicks there are clicks v landing page clicks. In other words anyone can get clicks but getting people who will wait for the page to load is harder to get. So I went to impressions. My market is about 24k people. I can serve all of them a huge number of impressions. Repetition is what sells them. Just getting a more successful click means nothing. The FB ads manager is very good for this. IG gave no clue what I was targeting.
I am waiting particularly on Sotheby’s to get back to me within three weeks with their appraisal of the NFT collection. The auction house wants to sell NFTs. They have a larger private placement service. That is like having access to the best art advisors in the world who also happen to have the best richest client list. Assuming Sotheby’s decides to run with them. I do not control that.
You do understand that the Infrastructure Law sets, for the first time, an actual Under Secretary and authorizes (again, for the first time) the Minority Business Development Agency to ensure that at least a portion of the funds end up with minority businesses.
You might recall that in all the years between, say, 1880 and 1960 any government programs were effectively closed to minorities, as they had neither the skill set (segregated schools) or capital (structural poverty) to compete for such, leading to a chicken/egg problem of bringing minorities who might be (or might have been) qualified into the economic mainstream.
So yes, the bill will help minorities, but likely only because of “those rabblerousers” who make enough noise to get a piece of the pie that’s being passed around.
I’d be the first to agree that if we had an egalitarian society - or had had an egalitarian society for some time that such things would be unnecessary, even unuseful, but we didn’t and we don’t yet. I certainly don’t agree with every protest or protest group, I see those which take the case too far, but them I am cognizant of those who sat silently for a century waiting for the rest of society to do the right thing - and it never happened until the rabble rousers started rousing that rabble in the 1960s. Since then we have seen a wholesale introduction of minorities (and women) into economic circles from which they were shut out, and while there is still disparities in the way they are treated, I happen to think we are far better off than before.
We have empowered more than half the population to believe in achievement, and given them a boost to help them accomplish it. Some have failed, some have not taken the helping hand, but many have succeeded and we are vastly better off for it.
The sideshow of Black Lives Matter is just one area, to wit: Policing, where abundant racial profiling still exists. On a broader canvas, it might aim for economic validation, but they can’t pick every target so they have picked the worst and most obvious scab to deal with.
Grievance it always the right of the aggrieved. On the Right they think Christianity is under threat, in Black communities it’s how they are racially differentiated, in (some) women’s circles it’s body autonomy or economic security. White males have their guns to keep them warm, and yes, they have their grievance pods too.
Don’t be surprised about it all. It’s how the human condition works. Always has. I’m sure always will.
Christianity actually does seem to be “under threat” - but by Christians themselves. In a very recent interview on NPR, Russell Moore, a former top dog at the Southern Baptist Convention and who is currently the editor-in-chief of Christianity Today said that when he’s spoken with pastors of Evangelical churches about their message, they have been assailed by their parishioners for espousing the teachings of Jesus!
“When the pastor would say, ‘I’m literally quoting Jesus Christ’ … The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn’t work anymore. That’s weak,” he added. “When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we’re in a crisis.”
Yup. Jesus was “woke”. Shiny-land has “cafeteria” Christianity. People can embrace the bigotry promoted by organized religion, while rejecting what Jesus taught.
Back before I fired Comcast in 2010, I made a point of watching Hannity and O’Reilly, because I wanted to see for myself what they were saying.
What Fox Noise has been selling, for over 20 years, is white people are the center of the universe, white people do all the good things, and any opportunity that is taken by a non-white person, takes away from white people.
I was watching one night, when O’Reilly was holding forth with a then prominent Senator. O’Reilly said one of the most appalling things I have ever heard, for a supposed “thought leader”: words to the effect “you know what the liberals and the New York Times want? They want to destroy the white, male, Christian, power structure”.
The goobers are coming at the issue from a viewpoint that they are entitled to have everything, and anything that goes to anyone else is depriving white people of their entitlement.
Sotheby’s has already emailed me back. The auction house appraisers can not value the collection. There is nothing for them to work out comparable values.
My Facebook ad less than a day in is beginning to gain some traction. That is the good news. I can saturate my market within a budget I can easily afford. The budget for ads is far less than Sotheby’s percentages would have been.
The market audience age and new product is out of Sotheby’s reach.
