OT: Another Quicken Question

It’s a shame there’s not a Quicken Board but I guess that’s one of the “improvements” we get with new management on the Fool. Anyway in Quicken how come I can have City of Houston and “City of Houston” or CenterPoint Energy and “CenterPoint Energy” and they don’t match. They are both spelled the same way except one has quotes around the name and the other doesn’t. Oh, yea, they NEVER match. I always have to clear one manually and delete the one I download from the bank.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Don’t know what version of Quicken you are using and that might make a difference. I am Mac Subscription. I have similar situations and no trouble - what I do is have a Renaming Rule that converts “City of Houston” to City of Houston and all works just fine.

Hey GW. I appreciate the reply. I’ve played around with the Renaming Rules before with not much luck. Let me give it another try. I kinda thought maybe the parentheses was a by product of the Renaming Rules. Any way thanks for the help.

I have found the rules to be very literal – like even a couple of spaces is not one space. In addition to writing the rule yourself, Quicken often gives me the option to create a rule. I think it happens when I edit a downloaded character string.

I changed a couple of the of the existing rules in the Renaming Rules. I noticed one of the rules had single quotes rather than double quotes around them. We shall see the next time those entities come up if it works.
