LOL I stand corrected. Now did that not look graceful!!

I would not have wanted to be on the ship in front of that aircraft carrier.

I cannot imagine landing the B-52 on the aircraft carrier.
For the real thing, try this:
Note, the narration says they used NAVY pilots, who had not flown a Herc before, rather than Air Force sorts, that had never landed on a carrier before. So, what takes more skill, flying a plane, or landing on a carrier?
Steve
It was laffable. Donāt know about āgracefulā. The carrier is dead in the water. The Buff took off from the stern. The ship āin frontā of the carrier would be the āplane guardā, that follows behind the carrier, to pull pilots out of the drink. We didnāt have a āplane guardā ship when I was on the Lex. We used helos. Iām not sure anyone uses a ship for plane guard, as a helo can get to the pilot faster.
Steve
It was a simulation Steve, as in not real. LOL
Of course, but it was laffably poorly done. Basic, fundamental stuff, like the plane should take off with some wind over the deck. I didnāt even get into the fact that the Buff would have tipped over, because the wingtip wheels were not on the deck to steady it.
Hereās another cartoon of a carrier takeoff, but itās a bit closer to reality.
Steve
One wing tip would probably be hanging over the edge of the deck to make room to clear the island. And then the deck is about 6000 feet too short. Unless you can get something more than 100 knots of wind over the deck.
[best Scotty brogue] Iām givenā āer all sheās got capān
The best would have been if they had Enola Gay stenciled on the side.
Or Gay Enola. Or Gay CSM the First.
No. We are near no air bases and it takes quite some time to fly here. Been told our topography is like the canyons in Afghanistan. Itās been a while since we have had any activity, and never this much. It seems to have stopped for now, but it was a crazy increase.
These flyovers are crazy noisy. The first time I experienced one I was driving and pulled over, thinking that I was dragging a muffler, or something. Looked under the car and saw nothing, but when I was telling our new neighbor he just laughed and said it had to be a flyover. Everything rattled. One brief flyover with two fighters is normal, with a frequency of maybe once a month. For there to be this many fighters passing over in one day is a huge escalation.
FWIW,

Donāt complain about the navy. They will keep you afloat.
